Summer Is A Great Time To Take The
American Red Cross Babysitting Training Course

Newton, NJ July 10, 2009 — Summer is the ideal time to take the American Red Cross Babysitting Training course and learn how to be a safe and responsible children’s caregiver. School is out, kids are at home, and many parents are looking for someone they can depend on to watch their children. This program is being offered Saturday, July 18th from 9:00am to 3:30pm at Chapter Headquarters – 93 Spring Street, Suite 101, Newton, NJ. As a special offer, the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering students who take the July 18th session of the Babysitter’s program a $25 discount off the optional Infant/Child CPR class offered on July 21st!

The Babysitter’s training is designed for 11 to 15 year olds, who can take the course in one day and start safely watching children the next. The course teaches participants how to:

  • Care for children and infants.

  • Be a good leader and role model.

  • Make good decisions and solve problems.

  • Keep the children you baby-sit and yourself safe

  • Handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents.

  • Write resumes and interview for jobs.

  • And much more!

Safety is a key component of the course. You will learn how to safely get the word out that you are available to babysit. The course also teaches what you should do before saying “yes” to watching someone’s children, and what not to do when babysitting.

The Babysitter's Training course helps you learn about the responsibilities involved in being a good babysitter, and prepares you on how to respond to almost any babysitting situation. Materials include:

  • A handbook with skill sheets featuring full-color photos of babysitters on the job. Use the handbook when taking the Babysitter's Training course and then take it with you whenever you baby-sit.

  • An emergency reference guide that you can bring to the job. This at-a-glance guide is small and easy to carry to jobs and describes care for common injuries and illnesses.

  • A CD-ROM with business card templates; a resume template; My Babysitting Organizer to store client information; emergency preparedness information; a downloadable booklet with activities, games, crafts and recipes; and interactive exercises, including end of chapter quizzes, Safe House activity and a trivia game. The participant's CD-ROM also contains forms you will use frequently when babysitting.
