The American Red Cross and Liberty Science Center Partner to Present “Nature Unleashed”

Sussex County Chapter Volunteers Dick and Sandy Karman

Newton, NJ July 20, 2009 - The American Red Cross and the Liberty Science Center have partnered on an exciting initiative to bring to light nature's most dramatic and destructive powers. "Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters" is an interactive exhibit that provides displays and animations that let you trigger an earthquake, simulate a tsunami, generate a virtual volcano and more. The exhibit also brings home the realities of living through horrific disasters through images, artifacts and stories of survival. The exhibit is currently open and runs through January 4, 2010. American Red Cross Disaster Volunteers will be on hand to recount their first hand stories of witnessing the destruction of some of the nation’s largest disasters and the resilience of the human spirit.

Trained Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Volunteers, Dick and Sandy Karman said they are “excited about this unique partnership with the Liberty Science Center because it provides them with an opportunity to encourage people to prepare for disasters and other emergencies”. Natural or human caused disasters can strike suddenly, at anytime and anywhere. Sussex County Chapter Volunteers are on-hand to conduct free presentations to local businesses, clubs, schools and religious organizations on how to prepare for emergencies, including the three actions that everyone can take that can help make a difference: 1) Get a Kit 2) Make a Plan and 3) Be Informed. To request this free informative presentation for your group, call 973-579-1600 and ask to speak with Lauri Gill.

The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization that shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization, not a government agency, and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
