Downtown Newton Blood Drive - August 10th
Sixteen Year Olds Now Eligible To Donate!

Newton, NJ July 30, 2009 – The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross is issuing an appeal for blood donors to give the “gift of life” this summer!  Visit downtown Newton on August 10th for the Blood Drive, from 12:30 to 6:00 pm at 93 Spring Street, Newton. Each pint of blood collected helps as many as three people and all presenting donors will receive a $25 gas card!

Eligible donors include those people at least age 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in good health.  This is the first drive the chapter is hosting in which 16 year olds are eligible to donate with appropriate consent and identification.  Pat Day, Executive Director said, “This past spring Governor Corzine signed new legislation that reduced the minimum donor age to 16 with parental consent. This is a great opportunity for parents to share with their older children that donating blood is a great way to give back to the community”.

To obtain a copy of the required consent form visit www.sussexredcross.org and click on the link regarding the August 10th blood drive. This form must be printed, signed appropriately and presented by the prospective donor at the blood drive.

When donating blood, plan to spend at least one hour for registration, donation and a short rest period after donation.  Eat well within three hours prior to donating and drink plenty of fluids! Inquiries are also welcomed from organizations who would like to schedule a blood drive.  For additional information on this and other Red Cross programs visit www.sussexredcross.org or call 973-579-1600.
