American Red Cross Training Schedule
Newton, NJ, June 16, 2009 –To register for training classes please contact Karen Puccio of the Health & Safety Department at 973-579-1600. Upcoming classes include Babysitter’s Training, Dog First Aid, Adult CPR, Infant and Child CPR and First Aid.
On Saturday, June 20th, an Adult CPR/AED course will be offered from 8:30 – 1:00 p.m. This course is also being offered on Monday, July 13th, from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm, Saturday, July 25th from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and Tuesday, August 11th from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm. The course imparts the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform CPR, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The fee is $50.00.
On Wednesday, June 24th, First Aid-When Help is Delayed is being offered from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Students must have a current CPR and First Aid certification to become certified. Participants will learn to identify delayed-help environments, respond to and provide care for a person who is ill or injured when help is delayed and will discuss some of the difficult decisions that may have to be made when caring for a victim in a delayed-help situation. The cost is $30 per person.
On Thursday, June 25th a Dog First Aid training course is being offered at the Newton Veterinary office on Route 206 in Hampton from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. This class is also offered on Wednesday, July 8th at the local Red Cross Headquarters in Newton from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Participants will learn what to do in the event their dog is ever injured or has a medical emergency; including breathing emergencies. The fee for this training is $40. Registration for either class must be done through the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 973-579-1600.
On Wednesday, July 1st, a Recertification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer is being offered from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. CALLING ALL LIFEGUARDS – Time to re-certify! This course is designed for any individual who has a duty to respond to emergencies. Topics include recognizing and responding to breathing and cardiac emergencies, two-rescuer CPR techniques for drowning and other special situations, using resuscitation and bag-valve masks, use of an AED for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest and using an AED when CPR is already in progress. The fee for the class is $45 and participants must have their own pocket mask.
On Tuesday, July 21st, an Infant and Child CPR class will be offered from 6:00 -10:30 p.m. This course will also be offered on Saturday, August 22nd from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. Attendees will learn the skills needed to provide care for infants and children in the case of breathing emergencies, and perform CPR. The fee is $55.00
On Thursday, July 23rd, and Monday, August 17th, a First Aid course will be offered from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. This course is intended to teach lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. The fee is $45.00.
