American Red Cross Honors Community Leader Glen Vetrano at Fundraising Event

Newton, NJ September 15, 2009 - The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross is preparing for their most important fundraising event of the year.  The 2009 Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn Sr. Award Celebration will be held at Perona Farms in Sparta the evening of Friday, October 16th.  The Quinn Award is a special award given in memory of Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn Sr. who founded the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1917. It is presented in recognition of the same spirit of giving to our community that characterized the founder and in appreciation of exceptional service to ‘her chapter’ in our own time. All Quinn Award recipients have made significant contributions to our local Red Cross and our community.  Past honorees include Monsignor Kieran McHugh, Larry Condit, Newton Memorial Hospital, and Lakeland Bank.

This year is no exception as Glen Vetrano, Director of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, will be honored with the 2009 Quinn Award. Vetrano exceeded expectations when he served as Chairman of the Sussex County Red Cross Chapters inaugural “Heroes for the American Red Cross” Campaign in March of this year.  Red Cross Executive Director Pat Day said, “We could not have asked for a more effective, energetic, or motivated leader. Months before the kick-off of the three week event, Director Vetrano was fully engaged in organizing a grass roots campaign that would raise public awareness and, ultimately, a remarkable $60,000 for our chapter.  Day continued, “As both a community leader and as a career firefighter, Glen understands and embraces the true value that the Red Cross brings to the residents of Sussex County and we are proud to be present this award to him”.

Glen Vetrano has been an asset to our community in his work with the American Red Cross and beyond.  He has helped so many who live, work and do business here in Sussex County, from farmers to fellow firefighters.  The Sussex County Chapter invites all community members and businesses to show their support for outstanding honoree Glen Vetrano, and  to support their local Red Cross at the same time.  There are many ways to show support, including planning to attend this elegant black tie affair featuring fine dining and dancing to  music provided by Glenn Lewis.  Supporters can place a special message to Glen in the commemorative ad journal or provide an upscale item for the silent auction being held in conjunction with the dinner.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
