Sussex Red Cross Provides Disaster Relief to many, after Fires Destroy Homes
Newton, NJ -January 15, 2010 - The Sussex County chapter of the American Red Cross has been very busy this week providing much needed assistance to the residents of Concetta Towers in Franklin as well as five families of Great Gorge Village in Vernon who all had the horrifying experience of having to evacuate their homes and watch as fire fighters worked to extinguish the flames. Residents from both fires were able to meet with Red Cross volunteers who were on-site to provide lodging and financial assistance for food, clothing and personal needs such as replacement of prescription medications and eyeglasses as well as emotional support
The local Red Cross was able to be there for all of these people only because of the financial support of the people who live in Sussex County and the companies that do business here. Sussex County Chapter Executive Director, Pat Day reminds the community that supporting Red Cross fundraising events is one way to ensure the Red Cross is there tomorrow.
“We have a Beef Steak Dinner coming up in just two weeks. This is a great way to support the chapter and to break up the winter doldrums at the same time,” said Day. Tickets for “The Brownstone’s Ultimate Beefsteak Dinner” on January 29th at Samaritan Lodge #98 in Hardyston are available through the chapter’s website – www.sussexredcross.org or at the chapter office located at 93 Spring Street in Newton. Tickets may also be ordered by calling the chapter at 973-579-1600. Advance ticket sales only.
