Red Cross Dog First Aid Training

The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross is
known for helping to keep Sussex County residents and
their families healthy and safe. Red Cross “Dog First
Aid Training” can do the same for four-legged loved ones
as well. This 2.5 hour course provides hands-on
training and guidance for issues such as; the best way
to recognize and respond to an emergency, how to
determine dehydration and also that it is crucial to
keep your pet’s vaccinations up to date. Dog First Aid
Training explains emergency care procedures for dogs in
simple terms, and the course fee includes a 116-page
full-color book with a companion DVD and features
step-by-step directions for topics from giving
medication to administering CPR and rescue breathing.

resource that supports our mission of keeping Sussex
County residents and their families healthy and safe”
said Health and Safety Director Melissa Turner, who
added, “veterans, military members and their immediate
family members are eligible for a scholarship to take
this and most other Red Cross training classes at no
cost”. Pre-registration is required and the fee for this
training class is $45.00 per person. This course is
being offered on February 15th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm and
again on March 10th. Other upcoming classes include:
On Tuesday, February 1st an
Infant/Child CPR course will be offered from 6:00pm to
10:30pm. The course imparts the knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies and
perform CPR specifically for children under the age of
nine. The fee is $60.00.
On Tuesday, February 8th an Adult
CPR/AED course will be offered from 6:00pm to 10:30pm.
The course imparts the knowledge and skills necessary to
provide care for breathing emergencies, perform CPR, and
the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to
save victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The fee is
$55.00.
On Saturday, February 12th an
Infant/Child CPR course will be offered from 6:00pm to
10:30pm. The course imparts the knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies and
perform CPR specifically for children under the age of
nine. The fee is $60.00.
On Tuesday, February 15th a Dog First
Aid class is being offered from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at
chapter headquarters. Participants will learn what to
do in the event their dog is ever injured or has a
medical emergency; including breathing emergencies. The
fee for this training is $45. 00
On Monday and Tuesday, February 21st
and 22nd a Babysitter’s Training course is being offered
from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Participants must attend both
days. The Babysitter’s Training course has a unique
interactive, educational format that tasks youth, ages
11 – 15 years of age, with activities such as
identifying safety problems around the house and yard
and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for
children in their care. The fee for this course is
$70.00.
Veterans, military members and their
immediate family members are eligible for a scholarship
to take most Red Cross Health and Safety training
classes at no cost. The American Red Cross shelters,
feeds and provides emotional support to victims of
disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood;
teaches lifesaving skills; provides international
humanitarian aid; and supports military members and
