Red Cross Dog First Aid Training Offered

Newton, NJ, January 28, 2011 — The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross is known for helping to keep Sussex County residents and their families healthy and safe. Red Cross “Dog First Aid Training” can do the same for four-legged loved ones as well.  This 2.5 hour course provides hands-on training and guidance for issues such as; the best way to recognize and respond to an emergency, how to determine dehydration and also that it is crucial to keep your pet’s vaccinations up to date. Dog First Aid Training explains emergency care procedures for dogs in simple terms, and the course fee includes a 116-page full-color book with a companion DVD and features step-by-step directions for topics from giving medication to administering CPR and rescue breathing.

“This training is another lifesaving resource that supports our mission of keeping Sussex County residents and their families healthy and safe” said Health and Safety Director Melissa Turner, who added, “veterans, military members and their immediate family members are eligible for a scholarship to take this and most other Red Cross training classes at no cost”. Pre-registration is required and the fee for this training class is $45.00 per person. This course is being offered on February 15th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm and again on March 10th. Other upcoming classes include:

On Tuesday, February 1st an Infant/Child CPR course will be offered from 6:00pm to 10:30pm. The course imparts the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies and perform CPR specifically for children under the age of nine.  The fee is $60.00.

On Monday and Tuesday, February 21st and 22nd a Babysitter’s Training course is being offered from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Participants must attend both days. The Babysitter’s Training course has a unique interactive, educational format that tasks youth, ages 11 – 15 years of age, with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care. The fee for this course is $70.00.

Veterans, military members and their immediate family members are eligible for a scholarship to take most Red Cross Health and Safety training classes at no cost. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
