break

summer
vacation
are just
around
the
corner.
The
Sussex
County
Chapter
of the
American
Red
Cross is
encouraging
boys and
girls 11
to 15
who
would
like to
start
their
own
babysitting
business
to
enroll
in the
American
Red
Cross
Babysitters
Training
Program.
Red
Cross
Babysitter’s
Training
Program
can
teach
you the
skills
to be a
safe
babysitter
and
smart
business
owner.
When you
enroll
in
Babysitter’s
Training
you’ll
learn
how to
tell
when
there is
an
emergency
and when
it’s a
situation
you can
confidently
handle
on your
own.
The
class is
taught
by an
authorized
Red
Cross
Babysitter’s
Training
Instructor
who will
also
teach
you
other
great
babysitting
skills
such as:
-
Supervising
children
and
infants.
-
Performing
basic
child-care
skills
such
as
diapering
and
feeding.
-
Choosing
safe,
age-appropriate
games
and
toys.
-
Handling
bedtime
and
discipline
issues.
-
Identifying
safety
hazards
and
preventing
injuries.
-
Caring
for
common
injuries
and
emergencies
such
as
choking,
burns,
cuts
and
bee
stings.
-
Communicating
effectively
with
parents.
-
Finding
and
interviewing
for
babysitting
jobs.
Babysitter’s
Training
also
gives
you
excellent
tips on
how to
run your
own
babysitting
business.
The
program
will
show you
how to
create a
resume,
interview
with
prospective
parents
and keep
track of
your
babysitting
clients.
The Red
Cross
trains
over
120,000
babysitters
each
year
nationwide
and they
can
teach
you how
to
become a
great
babysitter!
This
training
will be
conducted
at the
local
Red
Cross
chapter
on 93
Spring
Street
in
Newton.
Participants
can
choose
to
attend
the one
day
class on
Saturday,
March
14th
from
9:00am
to
3:30pm
or the
two day
format,
being
held
over the
Spring
Break on
April
14th and
16th
from
1:00-4:30pm.
Participants
must
attend
both
days in
order to
complete
this
training
and
receive
their
Red
Cross
Certification
card.

11th, a
First
Aid
course
will be
offered
from
6:00 –
10:00
p.m.
This
course
is
intended
to teach
lay
responders
the
knowledge
and
skills
necessary
to give
care in
an
emergency,
help
sustain
life and
minimize
the
consequences
of
injury
or
sudden
illness
until
medical
help
arrives.
The fee
is
$45.00.
On
Saturday,
March
14th - a
Babysitter’s
Training
course
is being
offered
from
9:00am
to
3:30pm.
The
Babysitter’s
Training
course
has a
unique
interactive,
educational
format
that
tasks
youth,
ages 11
– 15
years of
age,
with
activities
such as
identifying
safety
problems
around
the
house
and yard
and
selecting
age-appropriate
toys and
games
for
children
in their
care.
The fee
for this
course
is
$65.00
On
Monday,
March
16th, an
Adult
CPR/AED
course
will be
offered
from
6:00 –
10:30
p.m. The
course
imparts
the
knowledge
and
skills
necessary
to
provide
care for
breathing
emergencies,
perform
CPR, and
the use
of an
Automated
External
Defibrillator
(AED) to
save
victims
of
sudden
cardiac
arrest.
The fee
is
$50.00.
On
Tuesday,
March
24th, an
Infant
and
Child
CPR
class
will be
offered
from
6:00
-10:30
p.m.
Attendees
will
learn
the
skills
needed
to
provide
care for
infants
and
children
in the
case of
breathing
emergencies,
and
perform
CPR.
The fee
is
$55.00
On
Saturday,
March
28th a
Recertification
in CPR
for the
Professional
Rescuer
is
being
offered
from
8:30 am
to
12:30pm.
CALLING
ALL
LIFEGUARDS
– Time
to
re-certify!
This
course
is
designed
for any
individual
who has
a duty
to
respond
to
emergencies.
Topics
include
recognizing
and
responding
to
breathing
and
cardiac
emergencies,
two-rescuer
CPR
techniques
for
drowning
and
other
special
situations,
using
resuscitation
and
bag-valve
masks,
use of
an AED
for a
victim
of
sudden
cardiac
arrest
and
using an
AED when
CPR is
already
in
progress.
The fee
for the
class is
$45 and
participants
must
have
their
own
pocket
mask.
On
Monday,
April
