COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Standard First Aid with Adult CPR/AED (6.5 hours) Participants in this course learn to recognize and respond to emergencies including shock, cardiac and breathing emergencies for adults, children and infants, heat and cold emergencies, sudden illnesses and poisonings. Additionally, participants will learn first aid for everything from cuts and scrapes to muscle, bone and joint injuries.

Adult CPR/AED (4.5 hours) For the person who only needs adult CPR training, this hands-on skills training prepares them to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in victims aged 8 and above. Adult CPR/AED is available in a 4-1/2 hour course.

Infant and Child CPR (4 hours) Designed for those who care for children, either full time or occasionally, this course teaches participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children up to 8 years. Participants take home a refresher skills card as well as information about preventing injuries.

Standard First Aid (4 hours) Our American Red Cross Standard First Aid training complements adult learning styles with hands-on practice and real-life scenarios. Our take-away materials help employees to retain skills and serve as reference tools in an emergency. This comprehensive course meets training guidelines for first aid established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Babysitter’s Training (6 hours) The Babysitter’s Training course has a unique interactive, educational format that tasks youth, ages 11-14 years of age, with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care. Participants learn by doing. This format, along with the course video and an enthusiastic instructor, keeps the interest of the babysitters and provides a meaningful classroom experience.

Pet First Aid (2.5 hours) is a handy reference guide for cat and dog emergencies. Created by the American Red Cross and The Humane Society of the United States, Pet First Aid provides assistance to people whose pets are ill or injured.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (9 hours) This course is designed to train individuals who have "a duty to respond" to respiratory and cardiac emergency (such as EMTs, police officers, lifeguards, etc). An American Red Cross certificate for CPR for the Professional Rescuer and the Healthcare Provider will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

First Aid-When Help Is Delayed (3 hours) Students must have previous First Aid training to become certified.  Learn what to do when an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response is 30 minutes or more away. Learn to identify delayed-help environments, to prepare for emergencies, and to protect yourself and a victim from the weather. Participants will discuss some of the difficult decisions that must be made when caring for a victim in a delayed-help situation.

CPR/AED for the Lay Responder Instructor Class (16 hours) The purpose of this class is to train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED courses for lay responders.  Instructor candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate (Certificate 3007) issued within the last year or a current National Health and Safety Instructor authorization (F5736 or Certificate 3005).  Instructor candidates must pass a precourse written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher on each component and successfully demonstrate competency in the skills evaluation in accordance with the established skill standards.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor Crossover Course The purpose of this course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer course.  Instructor candidates must be at least 17 years of age on or before the last scheduled session of the course and possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate issued within the last year or possess a current Health and Safety Services instructor authorization.  Instructor candidates must successfully complete the precourse session. This includes passing the precourse written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher on both Section 1 and Section 2 and demonstrating competency in the precourse skills and scenarios evaluation.

Pet First Aid Leader  This is not a pet first aid class but rather training to become a Leader who instructs others in dog and cat first aid.  Each participant will receive a copy of the Dog First Aid Handbook, the Cat First Aid Handbook, the Leader Training Manual and invaluable hands on training! This training is open to everyone however; people with veterinary medicine or teaching experience are ideal candidates! This is a great opportunity for any agency that works with animals!
